Nettlepaw nodded gratefully at his friend and stared at the ground for a moment before looking straight into Wildpaw's eyes. "When Hawkstar and his patrol left to chase out the fox, I.. I went after them. Even when Runningleap told me to stay at camp. I-I..When I got there, the first thing I saw was.. was Venomsnake arched over Hawkstar, h-holding his claws against his throat." he finished in a squeak, trying not to start crying again at the thought of Runningleap.

Wildpaw's bottom jaw dropped as Nettlepaw told his story of what happened after the fox was driven away. "B-But, why would he do that?! He's one of TreeClan's loyal warriors...oh great StarClan!" Wildpaw slapped the top of his forehead. "I shouldn't have known!"

Nettlepaw stared at his paws in shame. "I never knew that he was trying to become leader.." he whispered, shuffling his creamy paws in the dirt. "I'm such a mousebrain! If I had never followed them.." Hawkstar would've lost a life. he almost added. Why are you being so selfish? You did a good thing! he scolded himself in his mind.

Wildpaw began pancing around the den, trying to think of what to do. After he went around in circles about fourteen times, he raised a paw into the air, a finger pointing up. "That's it!" he decarrled.

Nettlepaw perked his ears as Wildpaw's eyes suddenly lit up. "What? What is it?" he asked, the bluntness in his voice fading away as his curiosity got the better of him. Please, Wildpaw. Nothing that involves Venomsnake.. he begged in his mind. But of course whatever WIldpaw thought up of was the complete opposite of his request.

Cinderwing blinked open her eyes, she gazed over at Owlscream who was still sleeping. She waited patiently for the she-cat to wake up. Maybe she'll wanna go hunting with me, instead of hanging out with Venomsnake. Cinderwing was determind to heal her relationship with Owlscream. She longed for the days when they were still close friends.

"Er, nothing Tanglepaw." Wildpaw meowed to the other apprentice, then moved Nettlepaw closer to the edge of the den. "OK, here's what we'll do. We'll be spying on Venomsnake, instead of Venomsnake spying on you. Look, we'll act like we never had this plan at all, just being normal apprentices. But, we'll use this to spy on Venomsnake, and make sure he doesn't do anything bad." Wildpaw knew Nettlepaw wouldn't like this, but it was his only chance.

Nettlepaw's ears pinned themselves against his head. "Wildpaw.. I don't think that's a very good idea.." he mewed doubtfully, making sure Tanglepaw hadn't overhead them. "I think it's best if we just do nothing. Besides, someone is bound to find out about the real Venomsnake." he pointed out, but he knew that was a lie. Eveyrone thought that Venomsnake was a great warrior.
